Pano2VR 3.0 released

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

We are very proud to announce the final release of Pano2VR 3.0 after almost 8 months in public beta. The major new features compared to 2.3 are:

  • HTML5 export (iPhone/iPad)
  • Multi Resolution
  • Transitions
  • Photoshop PSB/PSD and BigTIFF support
  • SVG/SWF objects in the Skin

We also did a lot of the improvements in every other part of the software. We like to thank everyone who beta tested and helped us to improved Pano2VR with their bug reports and suggestions.

To demonstrate some of the key features we created a short video:

As Pano2VR 3 is a major new release, this is for the first time a paid upgrade, however if you bought Pano2VR 2 since 1.1.2010 the upgrade is free. To buy or upgrade your license please visit the license page.

To show you some of those new features we updated the examples page. You can also use the iPhone friendly shortcut: http://ggnome.com/3.

Pano2VR 3.0 beta5 released

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

We just released a new beta for Pano2VR. This is mainly a bug fix release but also some new features have been added.
With this beta the preview image is saved along with the project so the “resizing” process can be avoided if the image has not changed. In combination with the experimental feature “smart loading” (you have to enable this in the settings) you can open gigapixel projects almost instantly.
Skins now support masking for containers and we added new actions that are triggered during multi resolution tile download. You can find the complete list of changes in the change log.

Pano2VR 3.0 beta4 released

Monday, January 31st, 2011

I am happy to announce a new beta version for Pano2VR. This time we had a really long bug list so it took a while. As I wanted to also fix the Photoshop BigTIFF bug on Mac OS, Adobe confirmed the bug in Photoshop but they have no work around and will not fix it until CS6. So we needed a new solution to import gigapixel images and as Adobe finally published the PSD/PSB format we went with that. Starting with this beta you can load/save PSD/PSB files in Pano2VR.

Another new feature in this beta are margins in the Skin. Margins allow you to place skin elements (for example the map) outside of the panorama. Martin was kind enough to produce a tip over the weekend to show margins in action.

To see the full list of changes, please go to the change log. To download this beta please visit the Pano2VR download page.

Pano2VR 3.0 beta2 released

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

This beta took an unusually long time to get released but I hope it was worth it. This beta is now (almost) feature complete and there will not be any new major additions to Pano2VR 3.0. The new features for beta2 are:

  • Transitions between panoramas in virtual tours
  • Flash files within the skin
  • External images and SWFs within a skin (Youtube, etc.)

You can see some of those new features in this virtual tour.
In addition to that, a lot of areas have been improved and a lot of bugs have been fixed. I just want to highlight a few:

  • Flash multi res: Now pixel perfect tile alignment and adjustable bias for level switching
  • Regular expressions to address multiple skin elements
  • Clean up of the Flash settings
  • HTML5: Flash fallback in the HTML template
  • HTML5: A lot of bug fixes in the player and skin
  • Switch to Qt 4.7.0 so a lot of annoying GUI bugs on the Mac should be solved

To better organize the future developments we now use a new bug tracking system and we decided to make it public. So in the future you can just a have look at http://ggnome.com/bt and you can see all the changes between releases and you can also see what we are up to.
Finally I like to thank Martin (aka Hopki) for his great help in the last weeks. We are really happy to have him on the team.
