Pano2VR 3.0 beta2 released

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

This beta took an unusually long time to get released but I hope it was worth it. This beta is now (almost) feature complete and there will not be any new major additions to Pano2VR 3.0. The new features for beta2 are:

  • Transitions between panoramas in virtual tours
  • Flash files within the skin
  • External images and SWFs within a skin (Youtube, etc.)

You can see some of those new features in this virtual tour.
In addition to that, a lot of areas have been improved and a lot of bugs have been fixed. I just want to highlight a few:

  • Flash multi res: Now pixel perfect tile alignment and adjustable bias for level switching
  • Regular expressions to address multiple skin elements
  • Clean up of the Flash settings
  • HTML5: Flash fallback in the HTML template
  • HTML5: A lot of bug fixes in the player and skin
  • Switch to Qt 4.7.0 so a lot of annoying GUI bugs on the Mac should be solved

To better organize the future developments we now use a new bug tracking system and we decided to make it public. So in the future you can just a have look at http://ggnome.com/bt and you can see all the changes between releases and you can also see what we are up to.
Finally I like to thank Martin (aka Hopki) for his great help in the last weeks. We are really happy to have him on the team.

Tutorial: Multiresolution

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

We’ve just posted another quick tutorial on outputting multiresolution Flash movies with Pano2VR 3.0beta.

The multiresolution outputs allow for very large images to be easily viewed on a user’s computer by creating multiple levels of resolutions that load when necessary. The multiresolution export has built-in image tiling that can be embedded within the SWF. The tiles can be in different projections like
cubic, equirectangular, cylindrical, flat.

Examples of multiresolution outputs can be found on our Pano2VR 3.0 samples page.

Tutorial: HTML5 Output

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

We have a new video tutorial online plus quick step-by-step instructions for outputting HTML5 projects. These are both temporary until we get more comprehensive tutorials/instructions produced.

Tutorials for outputting multi-resolution images are in the works and will be posted soon.

Installing and Registering Pano2VR 3.0beta

Monday, August 9th, 2010

A few notes on installing and registering Pano2VR 3.0.

You can run both versions 2.3.4 and 3.0beta at the same time. To do this, simply add Pano2VR 3.0beta to a different directory as 2.3.4. You can also keep them in the same directory but change the application name.

When you download and install Pano2VR 3.0beta and first launch it, you’re greeted with a welcome screen. For version 3.0beta, you will need a new license. Your license for version 2.x will not work! On this welcome screen, follow the link highlighted here in yellow.

Once you’ve received your Pano2VR 3.x license you can it add to the license field in the Preferences/Settings section of Pano2VR.
