Hi guys
I want to make some VR objects, I'm just putting up my studio. I can't find anywhere some base with manual or automatic rotation settings, do you have any name or also how to search it.

I have see that all of you use a digital photo camera. I was wondering if using an automatic base rotator (with constant speed) and use a video camera to make a digital video and extract all the frame give a good and easy way results.

Thanks

I believe still digital cameras or digital video cameras work. Just have to get the appropriate system set up.

Kaiden is a popular brand name.

Also, here a link to another one I've just started checking out - but the site didn't seem to have too much info:

I'm new to this myself - and do not know if you have to use digital or not. I would think so.

Any point and shoot digital camera will work. You will need a tripod. Sometimes we use a small Canon PowerShot A640.

This is just a hobby for me, so I'm currently satisfied with a ¥100 TV turntable. I took a tape measure to it and found it was about 44 inches around, so I added small white tick marks for 44 and 22 shots.

I've not yet tried to mask out the turntable itself or the background, although I know how.

Kaidan's object shooting rig is not cheap, but they occasionally appear used. I've been thinking about making my own with an arm that can be raised and lowered in an arc to get rows from different angles. I imagine any large DIY store would have what I need.

I divided my do it myself turntable into 36 stop points.
The turntable is made from standard 1/2 " [ 15mm ] thick plywood. It is 15" [38 cm] diameter.
The lazy susan [bought at Home Depot $5.00] rotation plate has steel metal ball bearings.

A person can stand one it while rotating.

If you are on a budget, a DIY project would be the best idea, this guy used legos

If you don't have a high workload in vr movies I would recommend a DIY project.
I had a terrible experience using the Kaidan Magellan-2500 and VrWorx software (on Windows and Mac)

I experimented with rotating a table and recording it onto video. If the camera and table are stable with good lighting I think it would work great. Photoshop CS3 Extended was used to extract the frames which would then be postprocessed and fed into the object movie making software. Consumer HD cameras can give you quality pictures and a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Of course, you could just get a DSLR that shoots in HD as well. However, any recent digital still camera is going to have enough pixels, what you need is one with manual control and a reputation for good pictures.

36shots in 27seconds, see for your self @ vrturntable.com For the pro who has a warehouse of products to shoot speed IS every thing. However the VR1001 caters to the museum VR archive market as well. Our turntable can be set for ULTRA slow turns of delicate pottery and ancient vases. Turn speeds as slow as 1 inch a minute are possible. This speed is slow enough that a very tall vase with a flower will not change position in the final VR image.

PAMCO motion control.

Hi everyone,

We use Foto Robot equipment (http://www.fotorobot.cz) and find it to be excellent. We've got a few videos on our site which show how them working.

http://www.spinme.co.uk/360_degree_solu ... /table.htm

The videos are sped up in some places, in case you were wondering, to keep the videos short.

Would love to hear what people think.

Hi
I use a Nodal Ninja 10 inch turntable with the RD16 rotator.
I use the rotator for my pano’s as well so making it that little more cost effective.

The RD16 can be adjusted for many different stop positions and has a maximum load of 11kg (22lbs) so not bad for small to medium objects.

I started of with a cake icing turntable with was fine but the RD16 with its click stops is so much more accurate and quicker to use.
works for me :D

I now use a Seitz Roundshot VR Drive which you can program the amount of stops in degrees and on each stop it auto fires the camera.
So basically you set it up and walk away. The Seitz turntable was stupidly over priced (like their panohead) so I made an adapter from black Nylon that adapts the Nodal Ninja range of panoheads and turntable to the VR Drive. You can see the two locating pin holes for the NN anti-twist mounting. For that matter you can mount "any" panohead that accepts a 3/8" thread via my adapter.

It also allows for my modified NN R1 3D Stereo camera mount. With the VR Drive firing both cameras simultaneously.
This of course makes it extremely versatile, allowing for automatic rotation and firing high on a monopod or telescopic pole etc.
Or as stated on a table with a turntable fitted, be it the Nodal Ninja version or any brand with a centre locating mount hole or 3/8" thread.

I can supply my adapter for those wanting to use this system for $75.00 USD + Postage worldwide.
Send me a private message if interested.
