Now that KRpano has released a patch/add on for iphone/ipad compatibilty, are we likely to see anything for pano2vr anytime soon?

If not I will just have to take the plunge over to krpano for iphone/ipad tours, although i really dont want to!

Any word from thomas on this?

Thomas mentioned that he was considering an HTML5 output when i asked a similar question a few weeks ago. Apparently to be released later this year ... (The sooner the better to me!)

However, I understand that Safari on iPad / iPhone does not yet 100% support HTML5 and nor will Windows XP - although MS state that Vista and Windows 7 will.

This is all such a pain for us, as it seems too early to hazard any firm guess as to which way to turn for multi platform viewability.

From what I understand, Flash has distinct advantages over HTML5 in some instances, so I can see it being necessary to output two 360 files - one HTML5, the other Flash. Besides, there will almost certainly be a long transition period as everyone catches up with this new technology.

I see the KRPano iPad / iPhone software only caters for lower resolution files anyway, so it would be necessary to out two files even when using their software. It also has reduced features.

Apple are such a pain ... why do they always have to "Think Different!?"

What would be perfect to me would be a script in the html page that detects what functionality the viewer has and then loads the appropriate HTML5 or Flash file. :D

Any further thoughts Thomas ?

i'm guessing the lack of response means we wont be getting anything anytime soon. looks like its krpano then.

Rod, a HTML 5 output at the moment would be useless as the compatibility isn't there yet between browsers.

Thomas needs to be looking at KRpano and what they have done. Yes it is simplified, but it is the best we have at the moment.

Yes, I am working on a HTML5/CSS3 player for a while (way before krpanos release) and it will be released this year.
The main problem is that currently only the iPhone/iPad and Safari on the Mac (not even Safari on Windows) support 3D transformations, and the support is buggy and only "experimental" (see 3D Transforms at Wikipedia: Comparison of layout engines).
Also just a note: Before krpano there was for example the open source iPhone player by jan vrsinsky and http://www.moblvr.com/ so krpanos is not a new invention.

I presume that Thomas (and others) have seen the HTML5 capabilities of "VR5 panorama viewer 1.0.0" by Ninoslav Adzibaba
www.vrhabitat.com

I just did my first one, quite easily, here:
http://www.jour.unr.edu/goldbaum/vr5

(That URL will default to a Flash version if you're not using an iPhone or an iPad; On the iPad it will include an audio file.)
