It would be interesting to see the hardware setup for this Google product pano. Pretty cool!

That's a (synthetic) 3D model, displayed interactively using WebGL.
There is mention of a "Katamari 3D Viewer" in the source code.

The aim of the project is to create a lightweight 3D engine with a very low level of complexity — in other words, for dummies. The engine can render using <canvas>, <svg> and WebGL.

Note that it only works using the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader for desktop computers, not on iPads!
Also please be patient if you want to have a look, it's 9,45 MB in size.
Not quite finished or perfect, but it does show what's possible these days.
